Collaborations

Not only does the option of the InterLab study contribute to communitcation within the scientific community, but so does the collaboration aspect of iGEM. Here, we reached out to teams across the world, offering our help and advice, and also receiving some in return. We have conversed and gotten to know many other teams, both national and international, through not only e-mails, but Skype, Twitter, Facebook & more. It has been a pleasure getting to meet such amazing people all around the world. Many thanks to all who have helped us through our journey.

Initial Contact: During arrangements for the UK iGEM meet-up in July 2018, based in Oxford, we came into contact with the University of Warwick via social media. They needed some help gathering water samples from around the UK as part of their water filtration project. Based in a city with an estuary, we were more than happy to help. We then handed over the samples at the Oxford meet-up a few days later. Check out their website to find more details on their water filtration study.
Cooperation: To gather water samples for Warwick, some of our team went out with 50ml falcon tubes to various points along the beautiful Exe Estuary. We gathered a total of four samples of water and water/sediment mix, along key points such as adjoining canals and shops. These were then returned to the lab for preparation before the travel to Oxford for a sample hand over. Information on the samples (e.g. GPS location) was sent via e-mails.
Follow-Up: Following this, both ourselves and Warwick have placed information on the collaboration on respective Wikis, to demonstrate the usefulness of teams working together. We wish Warwick the best of luck with the rest of their project!
