h('p', null, 'HIV-1 is a retrovirus that ultimately leads to AIDS and can be passed from a mother to a child during pregnancy,  delivery, or breastfeeding. Early intervention of HIV-1 reduces infant mortality by up to 75%, but currently samples often have to be sent off to labs with more resources than are present in the immediate area. Easier detection of HIV through a Cas12a-based system will aid in earlier detection, as assays based on antibody detection and PCR are inaccurate in infants and difficult to administer in the field, respectively. The end goal of our project is to make a transportable kit that would hypothetically be able to be used in the field for the detection of HIV-1 in infants. We will be doing so by using cellular reagents, which takes the sequences for important reactants and inserts them into an E. coli cell. We fill first be amplifying the viral DNA using LAMP and then detecting it using a CRISPR-cas12a system paired with a fluorophore-quencher assay. Ultimately, we wish to produce a "kit" that could be used in the field for rapid and simple detection of HIV-1.')

h('p', null, 'HIV diagnosis of infants in the developing world continues to pose many problems. It is estimated that there are approximately 1500 new cases of HIV infection in children under the age of 15, 90% of which occur in the developing world and contracted HIV at birth (x). Infants often show symptoms of HIV very early on, and in some cases, HIV can rapidly evolve into AIDS (x). As such, it is imperative that infants with HIV are diagnosed as early as possible.')
