Human Practices Overview

Reaching Society

While putting maximum effort into the wet lab development of SynDrop, it was supremely important not to forget about organizing convincing and engaging Human Practices activities for local community. It has already become almost a postulate, that fundamental projects are nearly impossible to communicate and attract lay public. However being very familiar with the fundamental research field, we have gathered already four year of experience in implementing carefully-though, good, and responsible activities for our community, and general society. This year we started from the younger generation involving them at schools and inviting to challenge their knowledge while visiting our laboratories. The international life sciences Biohackathon was organised after an inspiring dialogue with stakeholders and resulted in the base for our software tool LipoVision. Educating non-scientific people during „DIY-science“ workshop helped us to prove that it does not need to be a scientist in an advanced laboratory in order to be able to carry out research. Collaborations with other iGEM teams were useful for the dry lab development of SynDrop, broadening our scientific network, as well as joining their initiatives and proposals.
