Measurement Committee
Many members of the iGEM community have expertise related to measurement. The Measurement Committee members work directly with the iGEM foundation to develop its measurement practices efforts including developing community protocols, running the interlab study, and providing information and resources. Measurement committee members can also provide additional guidance and have agreed to be contacted by teams seeking assistance on specific measurement-related aspects of their projects.
Have suggestions, need help or want to get in touch with our committee members? Email the committee at measurement [AT] igem [DOT] org.
Jacob Beal
Committee Chair
Senior Scientist, Raytheon BBN Technologies
A computer scientist by training, Jake has found he needed to develop expertise in metrology in order to support his work on the engineering and design of biological circuits and devices.
Natalie Farny
Committee Co-Chair
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Natalie is an Assistant Teaching Professor in Biology and Biotechnology, and Associate Director of the Morgan Teaching and Learning Center at WPI. She teaches courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, and Synthetic Biology, and has mentored the WPI iGEM team for the past four years.
Traci Haddock-Angelli
iGEM HQ Committee Liaison
Director of the Competition, iGEM Foundation
Traci has been involved with the InterLab study and measurement at iGEM since 2014. Prior to joining iGEM HQ in 2015, Traci mentored the Boston University iGEM teams from 2011-2014.
Vinoo Selvarajah
iGEM HQ Committee Liaison
Director of the Registry, iGEM Foundation
Vinoo has worked at iGEM HQ as a lab technician, Generalist, and now the Assistant Director of the Registry. He works on the distribution kits, parts and the Registry.
Geoff Baldwin
Committee Member
Imperial College London
DJ Geoff Baldwin's lab focuses on development of synthetic biology approaches to facilitate the engineering of new biological systems for real-world applications.
He is perhaps best known, however, for his performance in Glengarry Glen Ross
Russell Buckley-Taylor
Committee Member
Imperial College London
Russ completed a Masters of Research in Systems and Synthetic Biology at Imperial College London and has continued to work in the field of synthetic biology for a Ph.D. The Ph.D. looks at how metrology can aid advancements in synthetic biology. His current research is currently specializing in accurate and repeatable measurement using microplate readers.
Ari Dwijayanti
Committee Member
Imperial College London
I am a student at Imperial College London. I was a member of iGEM team in 2013.
Kristin Ellis
Committee Member
Director of Scientific Development, Opentrons
DJ Kristin Ellis is the Scientific Lead at Opentrons. She previously worked in scientific development and clinical trials for MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is also known for her
contributions to the deep house community.
Markus Gershater
Committee Member
Chief Scientific Officer, Synthace
DJ Markus Gershater is the Chief Scientific Officer of Synthace, with background in biosynthesis, pathway design, and automation. He is also a funky technician of
audio-visual electronica
Daisuke Kiga
Committee Member
Waseda University
Daisuke Kiga leads research in systems biology, evolutionary biology, and biotechnology at Waseda University and has been a past iGEM advisor.
John Marken
Committee Member
PhD Student in Bioengineering, CalTech
John was a member of the 2015 and 2016 William and Mary iGEM teams, and was the student advisor for the 2017 team.
Marko Storch
Committee Member
Research Fellow, Imperial College London
Marko supervised an iGEM team in 2010 and joined Imperial to engineer genetic circuits for novel directed evolution approaches, developing automated protocols for DNA assembly and genetic circuit characterisation.
Chris Workman
Committee Member
Associate Professor, DTU Bioengineering
MC Chris Workman is an iGEM advisor and an investigator of regulatory genomics. Hi is also a reknowned nerd-rapper, best known for his magnum opus
