Our aim was to offer a treatment for <em>Clostridium difficile</em> infections which would not involve antibiotic treatment. Avoiding antibiotics is desirable because of the antibiotic resistance crisis and the risk of relapse associated with broad-spectrum antibiotic use in cases of <em>C. difficile</em> infection (CDI). The alternative treatment we focused on is based on a bacteriophage which specifically infects strains of <em>C. difficile</em>. As such our project is a phage therapy project, but instead of simply relying on the natural abilities of the phage ‘phiSBRC’ we have designed genetic constructs to enhance its function as a treatment for CDI.
