All over the globe, burns are a huge problem in the health sector. Mexico is a country where around 120 thousand people per year suffer from burn accidents recorded in the public health sector. However, in this country, there isn't the required infrastructure needed to treat third-degree burns, which causes a high mortality rate.
Furthermore, the rate of child deaths from burns is 7 times higher at locations with low socioeconomic indicators, where each burn case could hit 141,750 USD due to the lack of specialized equipment and staff required to attend these delicate wounds.
Thus, we decided to create tissue, a novel treatment that is capable of reducing wound healing time, preventing infection and consequently, decreasing mortality rate caused by this affection. We achieved this with synthetic biology, incorporating a growth factor and a scaffold.
