The Medal Requirements now include team collaborations as a silver medal requirement. To help facilitate collaborations, we have made this page so teams can share information about ways they wish to collaborate to reach all of the 2018 iGEM teams.

Please note that this is a page for teams to advertise their collaboration requests. This does not guarantee that participating in one of these will fulfill the silver medal criteria. It is still up to you and your teammates to convince the judges that you have participated in a meaningful collaboration as stated on the Medal Requirements page.

Greetings from iGEM Tec-Chihuahua!

We are currently working on an entrepreneurship manual which iGEM teams could rely on for the development of the entrepreneurial section of their projects. We hope that this manual can be used in forthcoming editions of the competition so teams may have a suitable guide which they can draw upon. It is our intention for this guide to include situations that different iGEM teams of all around the word experience while exploring the entrepreneurial field. Thus, we invite you to collaborate with us and with the iGEM community by sending us questions and concerns that have arisen while managing this section of your projects. iGEM Tec-Chihuahua will consult different experts and share with you the best solutions. We will also include your questions and concerns with their respective answers in our manual for future reference.

Attached to this message, you will find a Google Form to receive your support on the development of this manual. We include some questions to gather statistics about entrepreneurship in iGEM and a section for you to share with us feedback for this manual.

The deadline for filling this Google Form is July 18 and iGEM Tec-Chihuahua will send the corresponding answers to each team the first week of August.

11. Instagram Challenge For July

Hello iGEM Teams!

This year, Stony Brook iGEM aims for success beyond just the lab environment. To engage our community and teach them about Synthetic Biology in a more impactful manner, we created an Instagram Challenge for iGEM teams! For the entire month of July, there is a set of daily prompts to encourage teams to share more about their projects and Synthetic Biology! If you are interested in participating or learning more, visit the #iGEMPhotoADay Challenge page that we have created with all of the prompts at https://tinyurl.com/iGEM-Instagram-Challenge and follow us on Instagram @igem.stonybrook!

We are also interested in collaborating in regards to our project itself! Our team is working with the cyanobacteria Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 (UTEX 2434) and is working on sucrose production via Gibson Assembly and directed evolution. If any other teams are working with cyanobacteria or directed evolution, we would love to collaborate!

Additionally, thanks to Opentrons, we have access to our own OT-2 Robot and can collaborate on automatic protocols as well!

9. League of Superheroes

Every iGEM project is changing the world. We want to recognize the SUPER abilities of all the iGEM teams by creating a league of superheroes made up of superheroes designed by each team based on their project. 8. Sharing FACS beads for Interlab

Dear fellow iGEMers,
The Interlab study for this year's competition has an EXTRA credit component if teams are able to perform FACS analysis alongside the 96-well plate readings. The teams who perform the FACS will get a special mention in the resulting publication.

Although we have access to a FACS machine, we don't have the specific calibration beads that iGEM requires us to use.

Would any team be interested in splitting the cost of the Rainbow calibration beads (type RCP-30-5A or URCP-38-2K) with us? You only need a few drops to run the calibration so there should be more than enough left from the 5ml pack. Alternatively, if you have the beads and are willing to ship a small aliquot to us, we would be happy to officially list you as a collaborator for this part of the work.

Please let us know if your team is interested in such a collaboration for the FACS module of the Interlab study. Good luck to all team and we look forward to seeing you at the Jamboree!

Hi everyone,

Calling all iGEM teams! This year, Team Harvard wants to work with you all to end the stigma against synthetic biology. We’ve noticed that human contact with bacteria is frequently associated with negative consequences and as such, it is regarded as dangerous by the general public. As iGEM teams, we understand that genetically engineering bacteria is a largely untapped resource for positive change. Help us show the world the true potential of harnessing bacteria for use in therapeutics, diagnostics, the environment and more!

We plan to release a series of newsletters and articles to showcase all of the cool things teams are doing with bacteria for their projects. We’d love to feature your work in our series! 2. Science Sketch

Dear iGEM Community,

This is a collaboration request to ALL iGEM teams! Join us in showcasing the wonderment of iGEM and synthetic biology by creating a science sketch of your team’s project or any major techniques/principles that your project is using. Through the series of 1-3-minute sketches, we hope to promote public awareness of the iGEM competition as well as to show how synthetic biology can be utilized to solve problems facing mankind in an innovative manner!

The aim of the science sketches is to make a collaborative educational playlist with videos from teams all over the world, about their projects and/or the scientific principle behind their project. This playlist will be made public, so that any iGEM team can use it in their outreach activities, thus enabling all teams to spread the knowledge of synthetic biology to their communities.

It is preferable that we receive the video of the science sketches before the 20th of September, 2018. This would give us enough time to make the playlist and also show it in outreach events. Please make sure to add your team's name and your institution's name at the end or beginning of the video. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us! We have also created a detailed description of how to make a science sketch. Hope this helps!

1. Postcards

Hey iGEM Teams,As we all know iGEM is not only about experiments and labwork but also about bringing the topic “synthetic biology” closer to the public. In order to do so the previous iGEM teams of the Heinrich-Heine-University of Duesseldorf created a project to promote synthetic biology in public using self-designed postcards. Each year a bunch of iGEM teams decided to join which is why the campaign was a huge success with a lot of beautiful and funny postcards as a result.

How does it work? Every participating team designs a postcard which shows an image related to synthetic biology (or your topic) on the front and a small informational text on the back. Afterwards each team’s postcards are exchanged with other iGEM-teams so that every team can collect postcards from all over the world. The received postcards can then be shared with people in the neighborhood, during public events etc.

How to design your postcards:
Image related to your project or (synthetic) biology in general on the front
Small informational text on the back
Standard postcard format (A6; 14,8cm x 10,5cm)

If you are interested in joining us please let us know until the 15th of June, so we can figure out how many postcards each team should print and send. Please don't forget to include your address! Important: This is not the deadline for sending and designing the postcard!
