Appiled Design

Overview

The product we developed in this project is a special lid filled with engineered bacteria that can produce PLA and 2-PE, and the final product is shown using 3D printing technology.
In order to open the suicide system when the engineered bacteria are exposed to sunlight, we consider that this lid should have a light-proof function. So the lid is made of light-proof materials and the bacteria can grow in it. When the engineered bacteria leaves the garbage it will be engineered to die. This design ensures biosafety.


Garbage can lid

The product we developed in this project is a special lid filled with engineered bacteria that can produce PLA and 2-PE, and the final product is shown using 3D printing technology.

So the lid is made of light-proof materials and the bacteria can grow in it. When the engineered bacteria leaves the garbage it will be engineered to die. This design ensures biosafety.

The whole lid consists of three parts, the top is a cover that can be opened. This design makes it easy for us to add bacteria at any time. The middle part is a cylindrical liquid reservoir, and the engineered bacteria can grow inside. The bottom is a circular leakage net, and the transverse groove and hole are evenly distributed. There is a stick in the middle attached to the top cover. When we press the red button, the bacteria liquid will be evenly distributed in the garbage can, inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria with the pleasant rose fragrance emitted.



Lotion

We designed an lotion to eliminate the bromhidrosis. The design to solve the problem of bromhidrosis by producing 2-PE and PLA from engineered bacteria. PLA can effectively inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis that produce odor. The 2-PE can emit rose fragrance, giving a pleasant feeling. We make the engineering bacteria into freeze-dried powder. When we use this lotion, add the freeze-dried engineered microbes to the lotion and apply it to the underarm. The emulsion provides the nutrients necessary for the growth of the engineered bacteria and can fix the bacteria to the underarm skin. The bacteria can produce PLA and 2-PE in the environment of underarm. The accessory product of the lotion is an emulsion containing arabinose. When the user does not want the bacteria to produce PLA and 2-PE, apply it, the arabinose can open the suicide system and express mazF. Compared with the body lotion and deodorant on the market, this product is more environmentally friendly, more effective, longer in action and cheaper.
