<p>HIV-1 is a retrovirus that ultimately leads to AIDS and can be passed from a mother to a child during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding. Early intervention of HIV-1 reduces infant mortality by up to 75%, but currently samples often have to be sent off to labs with more resources than are present in the immediate area. Easier detection of HIV through a Cas12a-based system will aid in earlier detection, as assays based on antibody detection and PCR are inaccurate in infants and difficult to administer in the field, respectively. The end goal of our project is to make a transportable kit that would hypothetically be able to be used in the field for the detection of HIV-1 in infants. We will be doing so by using cellular reagents, which takes the sequences for important reactants and inserts them into an E. coli cell. We fill first be amplifying the viral DNA using LAMP and then detecting it using a CRISPR-cas12a system paired with a fluorophore-quencher assay. Ultimately, we wish to produce a "kit" that could be used in the field for rapid and simple detection of HIV-1.</p>

Uploading pictures and files

When you upload, set the "Destination Filename" to T--YourOfficialTeamName--NameOfFile.jpg. (If you don't do this, someone else might upload a different file with the same "Destination Filename", and your file would be erased!)

  • State your accomplishments! Tell people what you have achieved from the start.
  • Be clear about what you are doing and how you plan to do this.

  • Make sure information is easy to find; nothing should be more than 3 clicks away.
  • Avoid using very small fonts and low contrast colors; information should be easy to read.
