RDFZ-China

At the beginning of our wiki programming, our programmer faced had problems with the coding grammar of Media Wiki. After making various attempts, several tricky bugs remained. Luckily, as team RDFZ-China had coded part of their wiki, they came and helped us with the some of the specific sentences that were only used in iGEM server. As our collaboration proceeded, we shared a lot of coding tips and effects, including light effects and multiple layers. Since our programmer was elite in HTML/CSS coding, our team helped them with several effective sentences. It is an honor to collaborate with team RDFZ-China, one of the leading Chinese iGem teams, and together both of our team result in delicate and thorough wikis. We are grateful for the help from your team, especially the dozens of nights we were coding together on WeChat online meetings.

NJU-China

The collaboration with NJU-China felt nature to us. As NJU is a prominent university nearby our school, we’ve got the access to discuss our project and to help each other in a more profound way. As both of our teams wanted to share our projects and understanding of synthetic biology to the general public, we decided to held an outreach session in our school, which would exert a huge impact on high school students’ awareness and understanding towards cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. After a month’s preparation, on International Alzheimer’s Day, we held a special lecture about the projects from both of our teams in our school. We provided the place for this lecture and invited students from our school’s synthetic biology club and who were interested in biology. Not only did both of us give vivid presentations, NJU-China also incorporated an exciting part — allowing several students to experience simulating experiments held to enable them feel the difficulties caused by neurological diseases. The lecture turned out to be a success — a lot of students wrote about their feelings about this lecture, many of them even changed their views towards cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. It is a pleasure to collaborate with NJU-China to held such a meaningful and influential event. It not only helped us to reexamine our projects, but also helped many students at the same age with us to rediscover these “horrible diseases”.

SMS_Shenzhen

As our collaboration partner in two years, team SMS_Shenzhen is our most reliable partner and friend. This year, we talked to each other on the phone regularly to get informed about each other’s process and gave advice frequently. Our team also collaborated with them in parts characterization and checking. Since the relatively long distance between two cities, it is a shame for both of us that we couldn’t sit down together regularly for further collaboration. Nevertheless, it is still an honor to have such a long-term friend team. Thanks for your help!

Fudan

Fudan is our best mentor and helper in this year’s iGEM competition. When we first came to them, we were still unsure of some points about how to fit our experiment to the criteria of judges. They explained their understanding of the issue we were unclear about. In order to proceed to some specific details, we shared our project abstract with them for further discussion about parts improvement and documentation. They explained to us about parts improvement, listed examples of it and told us how it can be done. Moreover, we discussed about parts documentation. They examined our parts and provided information about how to present parts in a more standard way, they even recommended two parts documentations from previous iGEM teams to learn from. The result turned out to be great — we now have very informative parts main pages of both improvement and parts. Thank you Fudan for giving us so much help!
