Public Engagement
QGEM wished to inspire the general public to learn more about genetic engineering and synthetic biology. At the Kingston Science Rendezvous and Science Quest, we were able to educate young children on basic genetic principles and encourage the community to initiate conversations with students and researchers in the field. Collaborations
Bi-directional exchange has always been an important part of iGEM projects. We have connected with Team_Stony Brook from New York to discuss various protocols for performing directed evolution, and we have created a video and an information page summarizing the techniques. QGEM has also worked with Team_Makerere University on modifying lab protocols and dry lab modeling.

Expert Interviews
QGEM has done a series of interviews with professors, researchers and experts from various background regarding the development of our product. We have consulted members of the Queen’s University School of Medicine on the potential of our device being used in research settings as a non-invasive method of salivary collection and analysis. Various organizations and neonatologist and pediatricians within the Kingston community have also been approached to discuss the practicality of developing a monitoring device in clinical settings.
