Background
Our PI recommended our applet to some teachers and friends. One of the teachers commented on our small program that because synthetic biology belongs to a new potential with great potential, he wants to invite us to the moon. Classmates at Bay Elementary School do a simple science project so that students can get in touch with this knowledge as soon as possible.
Precedure
At 4:15 pm on the same day, the students of the Yueliangwan primary school started the club activities. At this time, we started our science in the multi-purpose conference hall to the students interested in biology.
First of all, let’s first give students a better way to learn about their habits and to eliminate them in their daily lives. After that, we invited several students to the podium to experience the design of the model we designed, but they did not know how to put the box together, which shows that the box we designed is not reasonable enough and needs improvement.
At the same time as they experienced, we distributed the SPACESHIP E.coli brochure for synthetic biology designed by OUC-China, so that the students of Moon Bay Elementary School read it first, and the team members of our team were guided by them.
Then we will carry out the science of synthetic biology for the contents of the brochure. Finally, We designed a prize-winning Q&A session to give students a deeper memory of this science.
Public engagement
Background
When we sorted out the message of the applet, we noticed that there was a special message, which was edited by a classmate of Shenzhen University. He described the embarrassing situation in their hometown and clearly stated that they wanted us to help us in the past. Killing the local cockroaches, and the local villagers also expressed their willingness to cooperate with us to experiment with our new products. Just we want to improve our products through testing.
So we customized 100-second edition boxes according to the number of local residents, and then came to the village of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province with boxes and related supplies. In the afternoon, we distributed all the boxes to the villagers, and instructed them on how to use them and emphasized some things that should be paid attention to when using them. Then they told them that we would have a return visit in two days. They need to tell us after use. Feel and suggest some improvements to our box.
On the third day, during the return visit, the villagers said that the box was very useful, but felt that the box was not very convenient to use, and it was not easy to operate when disassembling the dressing. The advice they gave us was to change the original height of the magnet to a screw-and-twist control, which is easier to operate and more robust. At the same time, they felt that only two ramps restricted the entry of the cymbal and should be changed to a circular shape. The base, so that 360 ° is a ramp, more convenient to enter.
