Above All
As a “bigger picture” of iGEM, our team’s human practice work thought this whole year goes along with our project. Applicate synthetic biology to benefit the world is the highest ideal of our human practice work. For achieving this goal, on the one hand, we do human practice work to establish our project, to improve our project, to applicate our project to the real world. For achieving, on the other hand, we do human practice work to bring science knowledge to general public, to educate teenagers, to inspire students. Through human practice, we understand the relationship between world and synthetic biology.
Sliver
As an element that have function of analog-to-digital converter, our project not only can be used in EGFR targeted cancer monitoring and treatment, but also can be used in other disease treatment, environmental pollution monitoring and any other occasion which need to apply to monitor and make “ all or nothing” corresponding.
We thought carefully what we want to do or what we want to achieve when we establish our project. Human practice group of our team do plenty of research about the hottest issue scientifically and finally they locked CAR-T, a kind of immunotherapy of cancer. Cytokine storm, a side effect of CAR-T, is concerned by us and we build a project which dedicated to weaken its degree.
Next, we do interview scientifically. We brought our idea and our project to principle investigators working in Chinese Academy of Sciences. We also brought our idea and our project to medical researchers and doctors. We corrected and improved our project by taking their suggestions. We change application field of our project from weakening cytokine storm to monitoring EFGR targeted caner. It makes our project more scientific and practical.

We integrated our human practice work to our project.
First, our project began at human practice. Human practice team brought CAR-T to our team and we designed our project based on weakening cytokine storm.
Second, our project was revised by human practice work. We have changed background of our project from weakening cytokine storm to monitoring EFGR targeted caner by following recommendations came from interviewing of principle investigators working in Chinese Academy of Sciences. The reason why we change application field is that Synnotch cannot be used in solution environment. Therefore, we change the target from different kinds of cytokines to EGFR, a kind of protein on the surface of cell membrane, which can be bind with synthetic extracellular recognition domain of Synnotch effectively.
Third, we brought our project to practitioners in related fields. We demonstrated how our project can be used in these fields and received feedbacks.
Education & Public Engagement
We want to benefit the world by using synthetic biology, it requires us to spread scientific knowledge to general public in order to eliminate their misunderstanding in the field of cancer. We also have a responsibility to inspire more and more teenagers and students know about synthetic biology and understand it deeply. Only in this way can we integrate our expertise into society to make a better world.
